Structural Strengthening
Tailored Strengthening Solutions
Every structure presents unique challenges. We design and deliver strengthening strategies to address specific asset conditions, performance requirements, and environmental demands. Solutions are engineered for reliability and efficiency, ensuring long-term service life.
Active Strengthening
Active solutions increase the structural capacity of concrete and steel elements, restoring or enhancing performance under modern loading requirements. Methods include:
- External post-tensioning (PT) tendons, ideal for bridges and large, circular concrete elements.
- Systems designed for immediate serviceability improvement (deflection and crack control) and increase overall load capacity.
- Precision installation and tensioning maximise efficiency and reliability.
By actively increasing strength, these systems extend the usability of critical assets while reducing the need for costly replacement.
Passive Strengthening
Passive systems protect and reinforce existing structures without altering their designated load capacity. These solutions prevent further deterioration, improve safety, and support longterm durability. These methods ensure stability and resilience, allowing assets to continue performing safely in demanding service conditions.
- Fibre-reinforced polymers (carbon or glass) applied via surface or near-surface mounting
- Steel plate bonding for reinforcement.
- Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) with strengths exceeding 130 MPa in compression and 6 MPa in tension at 28 days for protection and durability.
- Pile wrapping and jacketing to shield elements in harsh environments.
These methods ensure stability and resilience, allowing assets to continue performing safely in demanding service conditions.
